Companion Care at Home by Family First Home Companions
Companion Care at Home by Family First Home Companions

A companion is a professional, non-medical caregiver that provides assistance to seniors or disabled adults at home.  Companions can help with daily living activities such as, cooking, running errands, and household chores.

Hourly Weekday and Weekend Visits

Customize the services to fit your needs with an hourly visit schedule.  We require a minimum of 5 hours per visit and15 hours per week and provide up to 24/7 live-in care.  Hourly services allow you to schedule the visits around the times when your loved one needs the help the most while maintaining his or her independence at home.

Overnight Visits

Overnight visits entail having a caregiver stay at night for a twelve hour visit.  For example, seven o’clock in the evening to seven o’clock in the morning.  The overnight caregiver will monitor and attend to your loved one at night with getting settled in for bed, trips to the bathroom, or safety monitoring for falls.

24/7 Live-in Care

24/7 live-in caregivers stay in the home 24 hours a day and provide assistance with all daily living activities.  In a seven day live-in situation, two to three professional caregivers share the week and provide relief to each other on a regular schedule.  Live-in caregivers share in the household food and typically are provided separate sleeping quarters.  Live-in care is ideal for the person who is at risk for falls in the home, has a cognitive impairment, or is recovering from a hospitalization.

What is In-Home Companion Care?

We are here to help your loved ones continue to live life the way they want from the comfort of their own home.

Light Housekeeping – We can assist with vacuuming, dusting, cleaning floors, cleaning bathrooms, cleaning kitchens, taking out the trash, straightening rooms, organizing closets and drawers.

Laundry Services – Washing clothes and linens can be a strenuous activity. We can wash, dry, fold, iron, and put away a client’s laundry for them, alleviating physical stress.

Meal Preparation & Shopping – Our caregivers work with our clients and their families to develop an appetizing and healthy meal plan that meets their specific dietary requirements. We are available to grocery shop (with or without clients) and prepare, cook and serve meals.

Friendly Visitor, Conversation & Company – We will visit your loved ones at their home and spend time with them. From conversation to playing board games, companionship can be the best solution to help loved ones through the day.

Errands & Transportation – We can assist by accompanying and transporting clients to doctor/dentist appointments, personal appointments such as the beauty shop & barber, visiting family and friends, shopping, local errands, and more.

How Does Companion Care Work?

Companion services are available on a formal, paid basis, offered through Family First Home Companions.

We offer companions as part of the overall care plan.

Companions typically make regular visits, which may vary in frequency depending on the care recipient’s unique needs.

Usually, our caregivers visit at least weekly, while some may visit two to three times per week or even daily to help older adults prepare meals, take care of laundry, and do other tasks.

Who Is Eligible for In-Home Personal Care Services?

More often than not, personal home care services are provided to the elderly and those with disabilities who may have just experienced injury or illness.

Personal care services can help seniors maintain their independence.

This type of service is not medical and unlike home health care, does not require a prescription or certification for the provider.

Personal care may be provided directly by caregivers with appropriate training in personal hygiene skills like bathing and dressing.

At Family First Home Companions, our team works with each family to develop a customized plan of care to address their unique needs. Companions typically make regular visits, which may vary in frequency depending on the care recipient’s unique needs.

What is In-Home Personal Care?

At Family First Home Companions, our team works with each family to develop a customized plan of care to address their unique needs. In addition to companion care and homemaker services, we offer a variety of personal care services to assist your loved one with their activities of daily living.

Bathing/Showering – Bathing is essential to ensure proper personal hygiene but more importantly, to the way a person feels. Our bathing services ensure that our clients receive the assistance they need to maintain proper personal cleanliness, skin integrity, stimulate circulation and reduce the potential for infection.

Walking, Transfer & Ambulation Assistance – We make sure that movement occurs on a regular basis while taking into account any physical limitation for each client. This could include going for a walk outside on a nice day or assisting with chair exercises to get the blood flowing.

Toileting Assistance – Having an experienced caregiver on hand to assist with toileting may help prevent urinary tract infections, skin breakdown and falls. Our caregivers are experienced in providing physical help and assistance while maintaining dignity for all clients who may require assistance with toileting needs.

Oral Hygiene – Oftentimes, seniors may lack the fine motor skills necessary to ensure proper mouth care. Proper gum, tooth and denture care is vital to ensure the prevention of tooth decay, gum disease and/or periodontal infections.

Special Diet/Meal Preparation – Our caregivers will work with the family and client to develop an appetizing meal plan that meets the client's specific diet needs. This includes diabetic, gluten-free, dairy-free, low sodium, and diet downgrades such as purees, thickeners, etc.

Eating Assistance – In some cases, clients are unable to feed themselves. Our caregivers are experienced in feeding clients and assisting with guided feeding. When appropriate, we can recommend modified feeding tools to ensure an enjoyable meal experience.

Medication Reminders – Did you know that medication mismanagement is one of the most common reasons for hospital admissions? Although our caregivers cannot administer medications, they can assist with providing medication reminders, ensuring medication compliance, and assessing for any potential side effects.

Additional personal care services we offer include – General care and supervision, personal grooming and hair care, wardrobe selection and assistance getting dressed, wheelchair, walker, cane assistance and much more!

I was extremely satisfied with your services. Patrice and Odette were very conscientious and made both my wife and mother-in-law very comfortable in their final days, and I would unhesitatingly recommend your services to anyone who is in need of a home health aide.
