A home companion can go anywhere that your loved one calls home, whether temporarily or permanently. A home companion could be a great option for someone with dementia who is in a hospital and needs extra one-on-one attention and/or supervision for safety concerns. Sometimes just the simple bedside assistance and emotional support can be what your loved one needs during a hospital stay.
If your loved one is in a short term skilled nursing facility, a companion could be there to ensure that his/her needs are being met, that he/she gets exercise to build strength, and has someone there to keep him/her engaged.
Companions also go to assisted living facilities for someone who is recovering from a hospital stay and is at risk for falling, or for someone with dementia who needs more attention.
Whether it's an overnight shift to give adult children relief or a few hours during the day when family members are working, a companion can give you and your loved one the added support that you need during a critical health situation.
